Woori Yallock Farm School
We commemorated National Reconciliation Week by maintaining and refurbishing our reconciliation garden. The students restored old signage, cleared pathways, and removed weeds. This also contributes to the unit Record Information About Country.
Later in the morning, we visited Coranderrk Cemetery where we discussed the history of the aboriginal community of Coranderrk. The students learned about the achievements of the local indigenous peoples and the lifestyles they lived. We also reflected on the hardships they faced and discussed how this relates to the concept of ‘reconciliation’.
In the afternoon, we completed a practical activity for the unit Support Nursery Work by taking cuttings of ‘Goodenia’ (a small indigenous shrub) and planting them in the nursery.
Finally, we contributed to the unit Support Ecosystem Restoration by completing a revegetation project. This involved planting indigenous grasses and sedges.
