Woori Yallock Farm School

Students took part in a range of practical jobs around the Farm School as part of their Certificate I in Conservation and Ecosystem Management.

In the morning, students worked together to move cut Hawthorn branches to burn piles.

Throughout the task, they learned about why Hawthorn is classified as a noxious weed in Victoria, and best ways to remove it.

Students also began the ‘Support Nursery Work’ unit of their Certificate. This started with some theory work in the classroom, with students learning the basics of propagation, plant care, and running a nursery. Students then completed some practical work in the Farm School nursery, learning how to propagate locally Indigenous grasses and sedges from seed.

Throughout the day, students also continued with the Farm School Olympics. This week’s challenges included a chin-up competition and a wall sit competition. After lunch, students also participated in a bike safety induction before competing in the Olympic ‘slow race’ challenge.
