Woori Yallock Farm School

Students delved into the Record Information About Country unit of their coursework.
This included learning about the physical features of the country we are living on, and the local Indigenous names for geographic features, plants and animals.

Students also toured the Farm School ‘Reconciliation Garden’, learning about different locally Indigenous plant species, and how they have traditionally been used by Indigenous people for foods, medicines and crafts.

In the afternoon, students visited Coranderrk Cemetery in Healesville. Here, they learned about the history of the land surrounding the site as an Aboriginal Station. We discussed government practices that have been implemented since colonisation, and how these have caused harm to Indigenous Australians. We also reflected on Indigenous triumphs, including those of William Barak. Students learnt about Barak’s life as the last leader of the Wurundjeri people, and his activism, leadership and political skill.
