Visual and Performing Arts
Yarra Hills recognises and promotes the value of the arts as part of personal development and as a potential career choice for its students. Yarra Hills’ Arts programs, particularly at the VCE level, are recognised as outstanding with the school being ranked as one of the top Arts schools in the state for the last decade.
A rich and stimulating performing arts program enriches the life of the whole College. These include Instrumental Music, School Bands, Drama and Musical production. Fine Arts, Visual Communication, Photography and Media Studies are a central part of the creative arts curriculum.
School Productions
Yarra Hills Secondary College presents a musical production each year as either a musical or cabaret style production.
The productions are performed at the Mt Evelyn Campus Performing Arts Centre which is a theatre space. Musicals are performed in the traditional way with the auditorium set up with tiered seating. However, the cabaret productions are quite unique showcasing a collection of short sketches, dance and songs based on a theme. The audience sit at round tables where they are served food and drink whilst watching the show.
Students across both campuses are involved. Students involved in the College productions not only participate in the show but are also involved in backstage, make-up, lighting, sound, waiting and front of house.
